Assignment 1: Reasons for Writing

Elie’s Reasoning

In the novel Night, by Elie Wiesel, he has many reasons for writing it. One of those reasons would be that he feels a duty to enlighten ignorant people of the horrors of the holocaust. So many people do not know of the mass genocide, so he felt that it is important for them to realize that an event like this did occur. Wiesel mentions that another one of his reasons is to preserve a record of his morbid past. Creating this book is one way, he says, that his long gone enemies will not enjoy another victory of eliminating any memories of the holocaust. He wrote the book so that people will understand the terror they suffered through. All of Elie’s reasoning’s were valid, and writing this book was one of his most important achievements.
